Real Life Portraits: Take it Outside

Spring is in the air! I don’t know about you, but all I want to do these days is soak in as much sunshine as possible. Luckily, my job tends to lend itself to a lot of outside time for sessions! For the past couple of years, we’ve been offering “Real Life Portraits” where I come to your home and capture moments that feel (and are!) more candid. I am just there, capturing you with the people that you love, doing the things that you do. Real Life Portrait sessions are by nature, more relaxed, informal, and make for photos that clients over and over again call their absolute favorites!

As a mom with two kids, I understand the household chaos that comes from having kiddos, pets, and maybe a need for a new rug. The good news? We never even have to step foot inside your house in order to capture Real Life Portraits!

Spring, summer, and fall are the best times for outdoor Real Life Portrait sessions (although winter can be great when there is snow on the ground for snowman making, snowball fights, and hot cocoa on the porch!). There is just so much to do outside, and gardening, trampolines, treeforts, porch swings, hopscotch and sidewalk chalk, lemonade stands, even outdoor chores are fun to capture!

I’ve also done sessions where I join families for a bike ride around the neighborhood or we meet up at their favorite park or river spot. The options are endless, as the main theme is just that the photos are unscripted. Of course, if you want a few posed images, we can always start with a few of those before moving into some fun family time.

If this all seems just a little daunting because you’re not sure where to start, we can start with a pre-session in the studio to chat about ideas and make a plan.
