Newborn Sessions in Your Style

The first few months of your baby’s life are a blur of sleep deprivation, diaper changes, and midnight feedings, but they are also a time of such sweet bonding, and it‘s all gone in the blink of an eye. In just a few months (which can seem to move super slow or super-fast, depending on the moment), your newborn is suddenly a little person, with all sorts of personality!

I think everyone would agree how important it is capture photos when your little one is just a few weeks old, it’s just a matter of what your style is, and how you want to capture those moments.

Some people love the classic look of studio shots, and some people want something that feels more personal or outdoorsy.

Getting into the studio and creating poses for their baby just isn’t for everyone! But - that being said - you don’t have to go the traditional route in order to enjoy photos of your newborn, what if the session was more in your style? I’ve had the opportunity to work with a lot of couples to make their newborn shoot entirely their own with props like ski boots, firefighters attire, climbing ropes, and more! Or, don't like the studio? We can do newborn shoots at home to capture the moments of what it's like to live with a newborn, or - we can shoot outdoors!

Newborn sessions can feel really daunting to people. The most important thing is getting in touch as early as possible (like when you're still pregnant!). You don't have to have a plan or spend hours on Pinterest, I’m here to help you through the process and create a shoot that resonates with you! What feelings/emotions do you want to capture? Do you have a style you love or hate? How can you make the props personal? Below are my three favorite ways to make a shoot a little more original - interested in a shoot? Send me a message here!

Props that Make it Personal

Something I love to encourage my clients to do if they are looking for a more styled newborn shoot is to utilize props that are important to them. Whether it’s your passion, profession, or something more emotionally related (family heirloom, images of grandparents, etc.) - adding a piece that means something to you will change the relationship you have with the image. And - it’s pretty sweet if your child grows up to follow the same passions as you!

Take it Outside

For a lot of families, the outside is where they feel most at home. Whether it’s a favorite place or simply in your backyard - getting outdoors changes the feel of a newborn shoot instantly. Try portraits with you and your partner interacting with your newborn, walking through a favorite hiking spot, or - we can always bring props outside for a little bit of both worlds!

At Home Capturing Everyday Moments

You don’t have to head outdoors or even to the studio. I can come to you! Being at home gives a shoot an even more personal feel, from classic shots in the crib to images of you and your partner enjoying those first weeks with the new member of your family - doing a “Real Life Session” with your newborn always brings out images that you’ll cherish for a lifetime.
