Why Studio Sessions are Great

It's been unseasonably warm these past few weeks, but with a little bit of snow headed our way I thought now was a good time to talk about the wonders of having a studio session! While many photographers choose to run their business without having a physical studio location, I decided long ago that having a place where I could take indoor portraits was important to me. Having a fully decked-out and dedicated space with lighting, backdrops, props, and more gets me excited to shoot inside! Not only that, but having a studio provides a warm and comfortable space to meet with clients for pre-sessions, share slideshows of finished photos, and allows for me to have all of the printing items I offer on hand so folks can get a true feel of what they'd like to order for their own homes!

So, why book a studio session? I'm glad you asked!

Newborn Photos

Newborn photos are ideal for studio sessions, especially in the winter when it's super cold out. The studio also provides those rich and beautiful black and white photos that will always look classic. It allows the focus to be more on the baby than on the environment, and we have a ton of fun baskets and blankets for making the scene look extra cozy!

Classic Portraits + Senior Photos

If you really want a classic, timeless, or more formal look, a studio backdrop is perfect. It's also a fun one to do with your kids as they grow up—seeing them change across a consistent background creates a really cool effect that allows you to see how much they've grown. A lot of high school seniors like the studio look for their portraits as well. It allows for more outfit changes, lighting moods, and getting creative with style!

Photos with Tradition

A request I get from time to time is photo recreations from past generations. Often older photos of families have that more traditional and formal look which is easiest to recreate within the studio using backdrops and lighting.

Headshots

It's nice for professional headshots! While headshots come in all shapes and sizes, having a clean background with no distractions is great for your LinkedIn, website, or your portfolio. Or, maybe your business isn't about being located here, and having a plain background is best. With people working from home all over the place now, it's kind of nice if you're not trying to place your business in the Valley. Sometimes you just need a studio shot!

Last but not least, use the studio as a backup option if the weather isn't cooperating. In the winter it's really nice to be able to stay warm (especially for kids who might get grumpy in the cold). And as spring rolls through and rainy days crop up it's nice to be able to retreat indoors (rain can be super fun, but if it’s not what you had in mind we can still have a fun session indoors!).
