San Francisco Engagement Shoot with Rebecca and David

I had so much fun this summer when Rebecca and David asked me to come to San Francisco where they live to do their engagement photos—as a bonus, I got to take my older daughter Asha with me to explore the city and even see Zach Bryan in concert while we were there!

Learning about how a couple met and how they got engaged always gives me so much insight into who they are, so I always ask those questions right away. Rebecca and David met just before they attended Harvard Business School together and this is their cute proposal story from David’s perspective, so cute!

Becca is an extremely difficult person to hide anything from, so I had to be very strategic. I gave friends and family specific hours they could call/text to make sure that Becca didn’t see anything. I also went on a lot more walks than usual to take my phone calls out of the house.

The original plan was to go on a hike where I would propose, then we would spend one night alone in Napa and then meet our families for the rest of the weekend. However, I found out through one of Becca’s friends that she had found the Napa AirBnb and had to adjust. I decided to do the proposal the Sunday before to catch her off guard.

I still wanted to make it special, not just a surprise, so I printed out all the photos of us I could find (hundreds), bought candles, and ordered the floatie that we had first met on. I spent the weekend before practicing putting everything in place so I knew exactly how it would go down.

And the rest is history! I was able to surprise her when she walked in. I was standing there with my bathing suit, the floatie, and the bright green sunglasses she met me in. I was super awkward in the moment. Then we walked to the park, called all of our friends, and did a dinner down the street at our favorite place (Terzo). The next weekend we celebrated with family in Napa (the weekend that I had originally planned) with wine tasting and fancy meals. And the next weekend we celebrated with friends on a boat party that my sister and brother-in-law kindly gifted us (it was also supposed to be a surprise but by that point I was exhausted with the hiding and just told Becca about it).”

Can’t wait for the wedding this summer!
