A Snapshot of July

Summer is one of my favorite seasons and no matter what I do to try and slow it down it inevitably whips by in a blur of belly laughs and bliss. Since most of our preferred summer activities take place outside, we’ve been able to enjoy them despite COVID restrictions. Below is a round-up of my favorite things from the first full month of summer - July!

Movie to Watch: Hamilton

I’ve been wanting to see this for quite some time now - and it just came to Disney Plus! The songs, the story, there is certainly a reason everyone has been raving about it!

Music on Repeat: Josh Ritter

Josh Ritter - he's got so much good Idaho stuff (he was born and raised in Moscow, Idaho)! He was absolutely incredible live when SVMoA brought him to town. I love working with SVMoA for many reasons - but getting to photograph their live concerts has always been one of my favorites. You can check out Josh Ritter’s music here (make sure you listen to ‘Idaho’) and you can make a donation to SVMoA here to help them bring more great musicians to town!

Local Business Highlight: Latham Interiors

As a small business myself, I know the kind of long hours, hustle, and tenacity it takes to make a business work. I love chatting with other local businesses owners about their struggles and successes, why they chose the Wood River Valley as home base, and what keeps them excited to go to work every day.

I’ve known Sarah (owner of Latham Interiors) for quite some time now. Sarah’s drive, kindness, and talent set her apart. Her business has grown and Sarah and her team are an absolute force. I was able to chat with Sarah about her business, what she loves about interior design, and recent projects she has been working on. Click here to read the full interview!

Book to Read: Gone with the Wind

I needed a break from the personal growth books and I had never read this before. I love historical fiction and this one fits that bill. The story is very much from the slave owners view - but there is an amazing book called "Someone Knows My Name" and it's from the point of view of a slave. It’s another read I highly recommend! The New York Times has an excellent review on “Someone Knows My Name” here.

Favorite Snack: Snap Peas from the Garden

My garden is really producing this year! I planted tons of greens, tomatoes, snap peas, it's been so wonderful! Some years I have more time to invest than others - and this year I was able to go the extra mile to tend our beds. All of the starts came from Squash Blossom Farms - and they are doing incredible!

If you don't have a garden check out the Hunger Coalition’s Bloom Community Garden! Their Volunteer for Veggies Program is perfect for getting your hands in the dirt in exchange for a share of fresh, local produce harvested right on site! Click here for more info on their Volunteer for Veggies program.
