What's Your Winter Engagement Shoot Style?

The winter season may be one of the most versatile times to take photos. The landscape around us looks entirely new with a fresh blanket of snow. Holiday lights create beautiful bokeh effects and depth. The mountains light up as light reflects off them. Indoor shots feel cozier than ever. And the number of snow sports to play with is impressive!

I’ve been going through old photos and have compiled a list defined by the style of shoot. From fun outside, to strolling through a town of glittering lights, to sharing a mug of hot cocoa inside - it’s the perfect time to get creative with your engagement shoot (or you can always just schedule a couple’s shoot - no wedding plans necessary!).

Simply Snow Shoots

The best part about engagement shoots? They don’t have to be anything elaborate! In fact, often times when there isn’t an elaborate plan the love and fun of the couples shines through because that is the sole focus. Playfulness abounds in snowy weather - from snowball fights to throwing snow in the air, the glittery goodness mixed with laughter makes for great photos!

Classic Sun Valley Locations

Sun Valley goes all out for the holidays - twinkle lights, ice sculptures, decked out trees - there is no shortage of holiday cheer. I love photographing around Sun Valley any time of year, but the winter season boasts a little extra sparkly magic. A couple of my favorite spots - in front of Sun Valley lodge, walking around the Sun Valley Village, enjoying a cup of hot cocoa at Konditorei, sitting outside of The Pio or the Ketchum Visitor’s Center, in front of the red Sun Valley water wheel, or of course - in front of Baldy!

Wintery Outdoor Fun

Feeling sporty?! Sun Valley is the outdoor enthusiasts dream. From skiing on Baldy, snowshoeing in the Boulders, skating at the Sun Valley rink, or sledding down Dollar Mountain - there is a vast number of options to bring some outdoor delight to your session!

Moving through the Mountains

You don’t have to gear up for a sporting outing to enjoy the beauty of Sun Valley. There are SO many trails both groomed and ungroomed to explore, plus plenty of roadside spots up along Highway 75 past Ketchum. These spots are especially nice if you’re bringing your four-legged family members - this allows us to get shots with the whole family and then we can pop the pup back into your car and get shots of just the two of you.

Fun with Formal

Why not get fancy? It’s fun to dress up and a photoshoot with your favorite human is a great excuse! Formal attire also really changes the feel of most locations - a rustic barn suddenly looks chic and cinematic when paired with some glam. Sometimes it’s just a fun idea to bring a change of clothes and get fancy for a few shots!
