Picking Prints & Sending Gifts
Don’t get me wrong, I love looking through online galleries, enjoying digital images, and posting photos of my family to share with loved ones and friends. But there is something really special about holding an image in your hands, about hanging a beloved shot on your wall and getting to live with it— the way it brings a smile to your face every time you walk by it. I love sending physical prints to family via snail mail. It feels so personal and allows us to enjoy these images all the time, not just when we happen to open that folder on our digital desktop to scroll.
But how do you pick out which images you really want to print? How do you know what medium or surface to chose? There are so many options it can be overwhelming! Good news. I’m here to help! I love chatting with clients during their pre-session meeting about the images they have in mind and what their vision is for how to use them in their homes. And then it’s even more fun when they come in to see their images from their session for the first time. After a slideshow, I help them compare images and pick their favorites and then we look around the studio at printing options and sizes, and talk about which image would look good in which spots in their house. By the end of the hour, we‘ve usually picked out some great selections for their wall or coffee table and maybe designed their holiday cards or picked out some gifts for their family and friends.
Below are just a few of the popular ways that folks like to take advantage of their images and the print products that pair well with each purpose!
Option #1 - On the Wall
Do you have a space in your home that needs a little loving personal touch? Wall portraits are just the thing! Large canvases, canvas collections, wood or metal prints, framed images - there are so many options here. One of my personal favorites is the collection (which we can do in canvas. metal or acrylic)- this works especially well for Real Life Portrait Sessions where you have a bunch of images that tie together to show a feeling or a moment in time. I also love them when you have a particular seasonal color that works well for your space (autumnal oranges, wintery ivory, spring greens, summery yellows and blues).
Option #2 - On the Desk
Desks, tabletops, entryways - there are plenty of places to perch portraits! I love small framed images that can stand alone, curved metal prints, or boxes of prints or albums that can sit on your coffee table. Families who come back for annual portraits often like to create a library of albums - something your kids will love flipping through year after year as they see themselves grow!
Option #3 - In the Mail
Who doesn’t love getting mail from loved ones!? I love these little accordion prints for sending to family - tuck in something fun (if you’re a Wood River Valley local or visitor, check out Hank & Sylvie’s for adorable trinkets) and you’ve got the perfect holiday/birthday/celebration gift!
